![]() ![]() ![]() The best part about Jewel Academy besides its simple, no-booster gameplay, is that there aren’t any restrictions in place, aside from the stars needed to unlock a new stage, to hold you back from blazing through all the 180 levels in the game. Obstacles like flower patches, for example, can be easily cleared by matching right next to them, while mud tiles can be cleared by matching over them. Well now, matching gems doesn’t sound very hard, does it? But wait - You have yet to meet the devilishly challenges Jewel Academy has in store for you! The game has plenty of obstacles especially in the later levels that either you’ll have to circumvent or clear away. If you’ve somehow completed them all, you’ll be happy to know that the game adds in new levels every now and then. There are currently 180 levels in total in Jewel Academy. However, if getting 3 stars is difficult especially for the tougher levels, then you simply need to get at least 1 star to be able to proceed to the next level. mainly because you can earn up to 3 stars per level and that you’ll need to accumulate enough stars to unlock a new stage. Having as high a score as you can get is pretty important in Jewel Academy. So, perhaps it’s best to form as many special gems as you can before you finish the level just to maximize your score. Unfortunately, there is no cascade effect during this bonus round though. Any special gems or potions that you may have will also be triggered. In this mode, each move you have left will be used to explode a single gem on the board, giving you a small number of extra points. ![]() The remaining moves will then be used up via a bonus round called the Magic Mode. Of course, if you’re good at what you do, which in this case, is matching gems, you’ll probably have some leftover moves at the end of a level. So, it’s wise to think carefully before you make a move since wasting a single move might cost you the entire game. Not to mention, for most levels, you’ll only have a limited number of moves to use. Starting from simply objectives such as attaining a certain score, you’ll eventually be required to solve more challenging puzzles in order to unlock the next level. Aside from collecting gems, you will also be given level objectives to complete just so you can proceed to the next level. The gameplay in this game is pretty “standard” for a match-3 puzzle game. That said, it’s interesting to note that in Jewel Academy, you can’t combine and activate 2 special gems by swapping them with each other. Unlike the rainbow potion which can be activated simply by swapping it with a neighboring gem, potion bombs will need to be matched in order to be activated, clearing out all the gems within a 3-by-3 radius around it. For potion bomb, you’ll need to match 5 gems in a L or a T-shape, while to get rainbow potions that will clear all gems that have the same color, you’ll need to match 5 gems in a linear fashion. However, if you made a match-5 instead, you can get either a potion bomb or a rainbow potion depending on how you made the match. This gem, when matched, will clear out an entire column or row! For instance, if you managed to match 4 gems together, you will get either a column or a row-clearing gem. There are many special items that you can form by matching more than 3 gems though. Do give it a try! Gameplay Similar to most casual match-3 puzzle games out there, Jewel Academy is designed on the simple premise of matching 3 or more gems of the same color together just so you can collect them from the board. So, if you’re looking for a simple match-3 game without all the fancy effects and boosters, Jewel Academy is the game you’ll enjoy. Instead, you have to rely on yourself, your puzzle-solving brain, and your matching skills to complete the tougher levels. or having an in-app store for that matter.
